Sleever International used a thermal process, dubbed the ‘skinner effect’, combined with several other shrink-sleeving technologies, including infrared, to produce the sleeve for a cylindrical glass jar for Merisant’s Canderel granular low calorie sweetener.

Sold internationally and used in tea, coffee and baking, Canderel is an international grocery brand available in 90g promotional, and 75g and 40g jars. The recent packaging re-launch was undertaken to increase brand identity and differentiate the product from its competitors.

The latest jar features both concave and convex contours. Merisant designed a different sleeve for each country, including a strawberry design for the UK requiring a 360 deg printing solution all around the jar. Gravure printing was used to ensure optimal definition, density and finish, as the design incorporates a metallised print effect.

The OPS film, developed by Sleever International for the sleeve, can be run on high-speed lines and repels dust powder.

The applicators used, designed and built by Sleever International in conjunction with its German operation, are high-speed [250 bottles/min] single head Powersleeve sleeving machines incorporating brushless motors, touch controls and control cards.
