New Zealand-based metal packaging manufacturer NCI Packaging has invested in two laser coders from Linx Printing Technologies, to ensure quality standards.

NCI Packaging is engaged in producing a range of cans, drums and pails for both food and industrial customers.

The firm uses special ink for its can ends which changes color when it is laser coded. This allows manufacturers to include production and traceability information, Linx said.

NCI has purchased the Linx CSL30 and Linx CSL10 laser machines supplied by Linx distributor Reynolds Group.

The two machines are being used by NCI at its QA laboratory to test the effectiveness of the ink and help its customers produce high quality readable codes in line with their own rigorous quality standards.

Linx said that the test codes are between two and four lines and also include a 2D QR code. The readability of the code is then checked by a scanner.

NCI Packaging New Zealand sales manager Windsor Yang said: “We needed a laser solution that was compact and easy to operate, and one that had the capability to accommodate both our existing and potential future customer requirements.

“We were referred to Reynolds and Linx by a mutual customer and are very happy with the decision.  The laser coders are of a very high standard and in tests outperformed the other model we were considering.”

Featuring powerful processing board designed to quickly relay the message from the control unit to the marking head, the two Linx coding machines are capable of handling complex messages and graphics while retaining the quality.

The machine’s LinxVision operating system allows for fast and simple set-up with reduced errors.

Linx said in a statement: “A major benefit of the Linx laser coders is their compact dimensions, given the limited space available in the laboratory.”

The machines were installed at the facility for NCI by Reynolds.

Linx Printing Technologies is engaged in supplying continuous ink jet (CIJ) printers, case coders, laser coders, thermal transfer printers and thermal inkjet printers.
