Canada-based printing and folding carton services provider Mega Packaging has installed PPC Technologies and Solutions’ (PPCTS) new Smartfold 1100SL Ultra X2S folder gluer.

The Ultra X2S gluer, which is the latest addition to PPCTS-DGM Smartfold family of folding carton folder gluers, is an extended version of the Ultra X model which was launched in early 2017.
Designed for demanding North American market, the Ultra X2S is features motorized carriers for full and sectional job/memory recall including machine operational settings and parameters for fast and repeatable changeovers.
PPCTS said: “The friction feeder with vacuum belts and vibrator leads to a standard carton aligner with left and right carton alignment capabilities, followed by a long open access pre-folding section with tilting upper carrier frame and an optional 3rd backfolding axis.”
The machine also feature a new additional section to allow pre-folding of 6 corner cartons and other specialty work such as a servo back folding axis.
Other features include a long “universal multi-function section” with crash/auto lock bottom and integrated “bump & turn” capabilities, left and right upper driven folding belts, as well as an additional servo driven back-folding axis.
In order to allow easy transition from small to large size cartons, the machine is equipped with open access extra-long final folding section with pneumatically retracting upper and lower center carriers, and includes a standard left side glue pot.
The gluer’s servo driven trombone section comprises an optional left and right independently adjustable crushing system which leads to an extra length dual servo driven two zone pneumatically loaded compression section for precision carton shingle control.
Designed for smaller converters and/or commercial printers entering the folding carton market, the PPCTS DGM Smartfold family includes the Ultra, Ultra X and the original shorter Classic version available in 650, 800 and 1100mm widths.
PPCTS said that the four Smartfold versions provide affordable performance enhanced solutions to meet the requirement of complex folding carton market.
