Linpac deal delayed

The UK’s Office of Fair Trading has referred the DS Smith acquisition of Linpac Containers to the Com- petition Commission.

Director of competition enforcement Vincent Smith explains: “The OFT’s investigation has revealed mixed evidence on how this market works and the importance of Linpac Containers. However, the OFT considers that there is a realistic prospect that the removal of Linpac Containers as a competitive force may reduce competition in the supply of corrugated board sheet to the merchant sector, such that it may be easier for rival suppliers to more effectively align their competitive behaviour in the future.”
