LifeMade Products subsidiary Lifoam Industries has introduced a new sustainable packaging solution, dubbed Bioffex, for cold chain shipping applications.
The company is now offering the Envirocooler insulated shipper with Bioffex technology to its customers.
Bioffex technology combines an advanced manufacturing process with plant-based raw materials to create new foam insulation, which features 100% renewable components.
Lifoam has replaced traditional expanded polystyrene (EPS) Bioffex technology to meet ASTM D6400-19 standards for industrial compostability, as well as reduce oil and water usage, greenhouse gas emissions and waste in landfills generally observed in cold chain shipping.
The Bioffex technology enables packaging such as the Envirocooler insulated shipper to break down and blend back in with the earth within three weeks, thereby helping to minimise environmental impact.
The Envirocooler insulated shipper with Bioffex technology also delivers similar performance to traditional EPS foam shippers, in addition to protecting payload with better temperature control.
According to the company, the Bioffex technology meets stringent shipping specifications for temperature-sensitive products while providing an environmentally responsible solution.
LifeMade president Mark Gettig said: “We are excited to see this product take off and for the positive impact it will have as we replace traditional EPS foam with a technology that is made of renewable and bio-based materials and will degrade in under three weeks.”
