Germany-based Koehler Paper and coated metallised paper maker Nissha Metallizing Solutions have announced the development of new metallised and sustainable METIVO advanced packaging paper.

The launch of METIVO advanced packaging paper expand Koehler Paper’s offerings in the NexPlus line of flexible packaging paper products.

Suitable for metallising, the paper is ideal for packaging food such as energy bars, chips, energy powders, and coffee, along with non-food products like cosmetics in powder or solid form.

According to Koehler Paper, the product also has good oxygen, grease, and mineral oil barrier properties.

The presence of extremely thin metallised vacuum coating ensures recyclability and helps advance a sustainable circular economy.

Made entirely from virgin fibre pulp from certified sustainable forestry and controlled sources, the METIVO paper is intended to be recyclable in conformity with the latest testing methods.

When compared with traditional plastic packaging, the packaging paper minimises carbon footprints and contributes to a sustainable circular economy, the paper company said.

Koehler Paper Flexible Packaging Paper division head Christoph Wachter said: “The first packing machine performance tests have yielded very promising results.

“The barrier properties that provide resistance to oil and grease in the bags that were produced have turned out to be particularly outstanding.”

Furthermore, the product can be heat sealed also just like other Koehler NexPlus paper products. It also has features like better strength, resistant barrier properties, and excellent printability.

Nissha Metallizing Solutions CEO Giorgio Boss said: “The metallising boosts the barrier properties to a whole new level, enabling us to guarantee excellent product protection and extraordinary product quality.”

Koehler Paper also has a NexFlex product range which is a new and 100% recyclable generation of flexible packaging papers. The barrier paper range is designed to replace plastic in packaging.
