The new Customizable Ecoslide-RX packaging design is intended to address the nation’s ongoing opioid epidemic.

In addition to providing benefits for safe dispensing, the updated package can limit dosages in order to curb overdoses.

Keystone marketing & business development director Ward Smith said: “Ecoslide-RX can revolutionize the manner in which controlled substances are dispensed.

“It represents a forward-thinking solution that supports the pharmaceutical industry’s goal of combating our opioid epidemic.”

The firm said that the new child-resistant (F=1) yet senior-friendly Ecoslide-RX was developed in response to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices’ (ISMP) efforts to implement product packaging changes to help prevent opioid abuse.

The Ecoslide-RX packaging’s design allows doctors to prescribe smaller quantities of opioid medication through limited days of dosing presented in blister packs, thus helping in combating dependency and overdoses.

Additionally, the packaging provides numerical identification of each dose to eliminate the potential pill-count errors.

The pack, which incorporates major benefits of Keystone’s original Ecoslide-RX package, comprises a re-closable locking feature to offer safe and streamlined experience to THE consumers.

Capable of being adjusted to accommodate patients with dexterity issues, the new lower dose count Ecoslide-RX blister packaging features broad format to allow for pictographs and larger texts on all sides for easier patient instruction and accessibility.

Keystone said that the eco-friendly Ecoslide-RX pack is made of 100% recyclable paperboard. The packaging can be separated easily from its internal blister for easy recycling.

Keystone is engaged in manufacturing and designing paperboard packaging solutions. It produces products ranging from packaging and customized folding cartons to child-resistant packaging solutions in a range of materials.

The firm offers products including clinical trial materials packaging; prescription pharmaceutical packaging; OTC and retail packaging; pre-filled syringe and auto-injector packaging; and medical device packaging.

In August 2017, Keystone Folding Box launched Ecoslide-OTC, a child-resistant paperboard pack for over-the-counter medication packaged in blisters.
