Packaging and medication dispensing solutions provider Jones Healthcare Group has installed a new advanced BOBST NOVACUT 106 ER flatbed die-cutter.

The Canada-based firm will use the new machinery to produce complex folding cartons for clients in the regulated health and wellness industries. The investment intends to increase capacity and production efficiency.

Jones Healthcare Group customer strategy vice president Cameron Bramwell said: “The demand for more complex packaging continues to grow with the introduction of labelling regulations for over-the-counter drugs and now nutraceutical products sold in Canada.

“Our new die-cutter supports our clients’ need for extended content cartons to comply with these packaging regulations, while also opening capacity for new projects. It’s part of a $30-million equipment investment we’re making to strengthen operations across the business.”

According to dispensing solutions provider, the 250-tonne die-cutter boosts productivity through in-line blanking separation and dynamic stripping with speeds up to 8,000 sheets per hour.

The machine offers automatic equipment centring and locking using its exact sheet register and BOBST’s CENTERLINE technology.

Jones Healthcare Group sheet fed operations senior manager Jenanne Graham said: “The NOVACUT 106 ER accommodates the large footprints and tolerance required for multi-panel, extended content folding cartons. It’s perfect for highly precise projects such as these.”

In April last year, the Canadian packaging firm unveiled a new sustainable blister pack, called FlexRx One Blister Pack, which uses eco-friendly bio-PET material.

The new blister pack is fit for retail, speciality, and long-term care pharmacies that use centralised fulfilment or in-house automation.

The firm claimed that FlexRx One Blister Pack can seal materials in half the time when compared to other existing solutions in the market.
