UK digital printing and specialist flexo prepress company Reproflex3 has installed a Shuttleworth MIS package to prepare for establishing a full JDF workflow in anticipation of moving towards flexo CTP.

The Shuttleworth system includes modules for estimating, sales and marketing, costing, stock control, invoicing, purchase order processing, and a link to Sage accounting. With an order value in excess of £23,000, Reproflex3 considers its investment in MIS vital to the growth of its business.

Andrew Hewitson, partner at the company, says: “One of the main reasons we are looking towards using JDF is because we can hook it up and control everything via the MIS. This will take us further towards the development of the digital printing side of the business, as well as providing a platform for the future introduction of an asset management system. We are currently talking to our customers about our intention to develop a JDF workflow where they can approve artwork on-line – and log into the system to prepare their own job tickets. This digital streamlining will create efficiencies that will greatly benefit both parties.”

JDF workflows are fast becoming the industry standard means of sharing data amongst the systems and resources within a company. The MIS, as the starting point of most production routes, will maintain and control all the data required by Reproflex3’s machines at each stage of the production process.
