Known for its emphasis on clean, natural formulas and commitment to domestically produced ingredients, J.R. Watkins has partnered with consumer packaging distributor, O.Berk Company, and packaging manufacturer, Berry Global Group, to bring a new foam and spray dish soap to the homecare market. True to its existing sustainable product portfolio, J.R. Watkins’ new foam and spray dish soap is formulated with plants, is biodegradable, and is packaged with the Booster-S trigger sprayer, a sustainable dispensing innovation designed by Berry Global for improved recyclability.

“As a heritage brand that’s been around for over a century and a half, J.R. Watkins has been in the homes of many consumers for generations—and as we grow and continue to meet our customers’ needs for clean remedies that protect, soothe, and solve, we value our community’s expectation for sustainable products. That means partnering with suppliers that have the same sustainability vision,” said Lauren Schulz, Vice President of Marketing at J.R. Watkins.

J.R. Watkins discovered the Booster-S trigger sprayer through O.Berk, a packaging distributor based in Union, New Jersey. O.Berk serves over 3,500 top consumer brands in the household, beauty, and pharmaceutical industries through a regional and national distribution network. The company has over 100 years of industry experience and boasts a broad supplier network, including long-time partner Berry Global. Sustainability continues to be at the forefront of initiatives at O.Berk Company, as exemplified by a 2022 EcoVadis Gold Rating, an environmental sustainability rating platform that assesses corporate social responsibility and sustainable procurement.

“When J.R. Watkins approached us searching for a unique, sustainable solution, we knew Berry Global’s recyclable trigger sprayer was the right choice,” said Robert Poillucci, Sales Manager at O.Berk of New England. “This was an ideal scenario for O.Berk. We brought together three companies aligned on critical values to elevate the consumer experience for J.R. Watkins; we look forward to continuing partnerships like these for a more sustainable packaging future.”

Berry Global’s and O.Berk’s sustainability strategies parallel, both focused on making positive impacts through products, performance, and partnerships. The Booster-S trigger sprayer resonates with Berry Global’s sustainability goals & commitment to 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging by 2025.

The Booster-S trigger sprayer is designed with all plastic components for improved recyclability. Traditional trigger sprayers rely on metal springs to effectively actuate spray and foam products, but the Booster-S trigger sprayer replaces the metal spring with a polyolefin alternative, improving the potential of the product’s packaging to re-enter the recycling stream. Through its deep innovation expertise from over 45 acquisitions and 40 focused design and innovation centers, Berry Global offers innovative solutions that solve problems existing in the marketplace and accelerate the circular economy.

“Partnering with customers to reach their goals is at the center of what we do at Berry,” said Zach Scheller, Product Line Manager at Berry Global. “The Booster-S trigger sprayer is thoughtfully designed for versatile product application, enhanced ergonomic use, and improved recyclability, offering an efficient, effective cleaning experience our customers and their customers can feel good about.”
