Italian industrial packaging solutions provider LIC Packaging has invested in a new HP PageWide C500 post-print digital press for food-safe digital corrugated packaging.

The purchase is a part of the firm’s effort to meet increasing demand from brands for short runs, shorter turnaround times and creative marketing campaigns.
Planned to be installed next month at the firm’s facility in Northern Italy, the PageWide C500 press features HP’s patented Thermal Inkjet technology to offer enhanced print quality at production speed.
The investment in new press follows LIC Packaging’s recent installation of the HP Scitex 15500 for high-value display production.
LIC Packaging director Piero Bertoldo said: “LIC is bringing the groundbreaking HP PageWide C500 press to Italy to offer our customers new possibilities including brand marketing campaigns.
“Thanks to its water-based inks, the HP PageWide C500 will enable LIC Packaging to digitally print food-safe packaging as well.”
The HP PageWide C500 press, with 1200 dpi resolution and one million nozzles, is designed to produce offset quality in demanding production environments.
Capable of printing 75 linear m/min (246 linear ft/min) at top print quality, the press uses water-based inks to enable printing on both primary and secondary food packaging, eliminating the need for an additional barrier.
The press’ water-based inks also allows box plants and sheet plants to comply with most stringent global food safety regulations, including Nestle guidance and Swiss Ordinance, HP said.
