Italian processed meat manufacturer Montorsi Francesco & Figli has swapped heat-shrink packaging for high performance flow packing film thanks to a solution from DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers.

The packaging film, which is being used for roasted turkey breast, contains polyamide and EVOH and features a sealing coat made of zinc-based Surlyn resin.

Its claimed benefits are enhanced hygiene, a secondary seal with perfect adhesion to the meat, a high barrier against gas, resistance to pasteurising temperatures and transparency.

“In changing the type of packaging used for several of our products sold to catering businesses, we sought a vacuum flow pack that would adhere perfectly to the meat,” explained Agnese Prete, head of Montorsi’s packaging department.

“We didn’t want the liquid that can ooze from the cooked meat to move about inside the package. The types of metallocene polyethylene we tested were unable to satisfy this requirement.”
