Self-adhesives technology provider Herma has expanded its opaque product range, with the new polypropylene film, PP white extra topcoat (grade 880), now available combined with HERMAperfectOpaque adhesives as a standard product.

Ideally suited for high-quality labels, especially in industries such as the cosmetics and food sector, the new Herma PP polypropylene film is developed to allow users to produce visually appealing, glossy, non-transparent labels.

Preferably used on PP surfaces to enable recycling, the polypropylene film features a special surface treatment to ensure optimal printing quality with standard printing methods, such as UV flexo printing and UV letterpress printing.

Herma Self-Adhesive Materials sales director for Germany and marketing head Ralf Drache said: “The new opaque adhesives’ special feature is that they can be combined with virtually all standard label materials – this film proves it once again.

“Label printers and users can therefore take advantage of a greater range. They no longer need to settle for such a limited range of colored label materials."

Herma said that its multi-layer technology of the PP film eliminates the use of carbon particles that are usually used to color conventional adhesives.

The new PP film is combined with the opaque HERMA adhesive 62Gpo, which is designed to cover even critical applications which require extremely high tack or featuring damp and/or cool substrate surfaces.

Herma noted that its opaque standard product range also includes white adhesive label papers, HERMAextracoat (grade 242) and HERMAlaser sheet (grade 135), as well as the white thermal paper HERMAtherm top M (grade 912).

Drache added: “If requested by customers, we will of course also produce different label materials featuring the opaque adhesives.”

The firm said that it is the only manufacturer capable of producing opaque thermal Eco adhesive materials.
