German consumer goods company Henkel has invested in KHS stretch blow moulder to produce polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles for the beauty segment.

Henkel has installed the filling and packaging company’s stretch blow moulder at its facility in Wassertrüdingen in Germany.

The stretch blow moulder with new technology will be used by Henkel for its Fa body care brand.

KHS stated that Henkel has decided to invest in its stretch blow moulder due to its ability to minimise the bottle weight while simultaneously increasing the percentage of recyclate used in the packaging.

The KHS stretch blow moulder with new technology holds the capacity to produce up to 21,700 bottles per hour.

KHS global product account manager Björn von Lengerke said: “You can make the respective containers for the various products yourself. This makes production plans more flexible.”

KHS stretch blow moulder is provided with a heater box, which is specifically designed to transfer the required heating energy through opposite heater levels.

The heater box enables to enhance the material distribution and stability of the bottle.

Henkel Wassertrüdingen production site managing director Christian Bauer said: “We’re planning on also increasing this percentage in other containers in the future in order to make our entire portfolio even more eco-friendly.”

Henkel has worked with KHS under its Bottles and Shapes container design consultancy programme to reduce the material used by 14% for the company’s 250ml bottle compared to previous versions.

Last year, Austrian plastic packaging manufacturer Alpla and Henkel unveiled new recyclable packaging for the latter’s Somat gel products.
