The new food-safe ink will extend the application capability of the Jet Press 720S solution for packaging production through allowing it to print on primary food packaging.

Fujifilm EMEA digital press solutions head Taro Aoki said: “The Jet Press 720S has already proved itself to be a high-performance and highly versatile press for both commercial and folding carton applications.”

The Jet Press 720S folding carton solution provides better finishing on carton board or synthetic media up to 600μ thick, enabling to produce quality packaging for the products.

Fujifilm’s new food-safe ink serves as a key additional component for the Jet Press folding carton solution, which is claimed to be the first B2 digital press approved for primary food packaging.

The press can be used for the productions of folding cartons for the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics/household/personal care markets.

According to the company, the new, low migration and aqueous food safe ink complies with stringent primary food contact regulations, including Swiss Ordinance 817.023.21 and European Commission Regulation 1935/2004.

The ink has been specifically formulated to work with inline (via a bridge), as well as nearline UV or aqueous coating.

Jet Press folding carton solution can also be integrated with Phoenix imposition and planning software solution provided by Tilia Labs.

The software’s ganging function provides users with different options to arrange jobs, enabling to minimize waste and maximize speed.

At present, customers such Belgium-based Packaging for Professionals (P4P) are using Jet Press 720S for printing packaging, including secondary food packaging.

P4P’s co-founder and CEO Mohamed Toual said: “Traditionally, clients in the packaging industry have doubted the ability of a digital press to match the quality of litho or flexo printing. However, our customers have been hugely impressed with the quality of the products we have produced on the Jet Press 720S.”
