The Fresh Factory, a US-based plant-based food and beverage manufacturer, is set to expand its capabilities by entering the pouch business.

The company has invested in new packaging machinery to offer pouches to its customers. It has also entered into contracts with two new clients to anchor the line.

With the new packaging machinery, the US-based firm aims to expand into new sales channels and further strengthen its position in the clean-label manufacturing space.

Expected to arrive in the second quarter of this year, the pouching machinery will enable the company to produce food-service pouches of different sizes for processed fruit and vegetables, condiments, spreads, sauces, salsas, and dips, among many others.

The sizes of the packaging will range from one pound to two gallons with hot- and cold-fill options.

The Fresh Factory commercialisation EVP Mike Weglarz said: “This new pouching capability will allow us to expand further into the food-service sales channel, which we believe will dramatically increase both the breadth of our offering and our customer base.

“In addition, pouches provide an environmental advantage by using less plastic than larger rigid plastic containers, saving both on materials and freight costs.”

The Fresh Factory claims that vertical integration and direct association with farmers around the country enabled the company to build a streamlined local supply chain.

The Fresh Factory CEO and co-founder Bill Besenhofer said: “We offer attractive farm-to-shelf turnkey solutions to our customers by streamlining and simplifying food sourcing, manufacturing, packing, and delivery processes.

“While the world is in a supply crisis, we continue to navigate fulfilment in the fresh food space.”
