‘Foil’ steam ahead at expanding Walker’s

Packaging manufacturer Herbert Walker & Son has more than doubled its foil blocking capacity with the addition of a second Bobst Foilmaster, only two years after its first was installed. The Shipley plant employs 150 staff producing a range of foiled products from bedding wraps to cartons.

“An ever increasing number of customers are asking us to emboss and foil the work we print for them” says managing director Stephen Whitley. “So we needed a second Foilmaster to make sure we could keep up with demand. The new machine is faster than the old one and has six foiling shafts instead of four. In practice it means we’ve increased capacity by over 100 per cent.”

The Foilmaster will handle sheet sizes from 400 x 350mm up to 1,020 x 720mm. Top speed is 7,500 sheets/hour.
