Installation of a new Mark Andy LP3000 flexo line has given Danish label converter Ganket, a lead in the Scandinavian quality market, and boosted production capacity at the 1200m2 plant on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Supplied by Convertec, Mark Andy’s distributor in Scandinavia, the new press is Ganket’s seventh machine from the American manufacturer. The others range from the entry level 830-10″in model to a DCR-1000 stand-alone die cutting/slitting machine, a 10in six colour 2200, and a 16in five colour 4150. The new LP3000 has a 13in web width, six flexo print stations and full frequency controlled Hönle UV system. Adapters allow for tools to be interchanged between the Mark Andy machines, adding further flexibility to the range of web widths at Ganket.

Fitted with CEGE register control, which is particularly useful when overprinting extensible substrates because it controls the print length, the new press is regularly running six colour PE jobs at speeds of 150m/min. Managing director Per Andersen, states: “We need flexible production capacity without compromising on quality. Our initial thoughts were to invest in servo technology but after seeing the LP3000 at Labelexpo and running print trials at Mark Andy’s facility in Switzerland, we were convinced that this press offered the best combination of features for our work. It is sturdily built, quick to make ready and very fast in production. We can also add rotary screen and hot or cold foil stations at a later date, if the demand is there.”

He concludes: “We are using our expertise with ‘smart labels’ to develop new products. To succeed and make a profit in today’s market you need lateral thinking, and then be able to turn your ideas into reality. The scope of our Mark Andy press lines helps us to do just that.”
