The facilities are the first paper mills in North America to achieve this high hygiene level of food safety certification.

The BRC High Hygiene standard provides the most rigorous framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality and quality, and the operational controls in the packaging and packaging materials industry.

Expera’s Food Packaging and Processing product offerings are among the most innovative and diverse in the industry, and BRC certification assures paper converters, brand owners, and food packagers that Expera’s products can be used globally to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

Expera CEO Russ Wanke said: “Our manufacturing sites have always put safety and quality at the highest priority, and the recent efforts taken to achieve BRC certification have been significant.

“Expera works diligently with our customers to create an innovation-focused alliance that enables our customers to continuously develop new products in an efficient manner.  Offering BRC Certification to our customers is just another innovative step in ensuring product safety for our customers, and the wider marketplace.”

The BRC Global Standard is part of an independently audited safety and quality certification program. Food industry experts from retailers, manufacturers, and service organizations developed this management system, and it is the first Packaging Standard in the world to be recognized by the GFSI committee.

Expera is a leading North American manufacturer of specialty paper products for the industrial & technical, food, and pressure-sensitive release liner segments.

Headquartered in Wisconsin, Expera employs approximately 1,800 people across four Wisconsin-based manufacturing facilities located in Rhinelander, Mosinee, Kaukauna, and De Pere.
