Elopak, a Norwegian company producing cartons for liquids, and the Netherlands-based GLS Group have formed an equal stake joint venture, GLS Elopak, in India to deliver packaging solutions.

Headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana, GLS Elopak will use the expertise, assets and networks of Elopak and GLS to monetise the consumer demand in India.

GLS Elopak intends to produce and process fresh and aseptic packaging solutions, designed to ensure that liquid food is safe and accessible to consumers around the world.

The JV will target both fresh and aseptic segments with uses like dairy, plant-based drinks, juice, water and liquor.

It aligns with Elopak’s objectives to expand its operations and meet the demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

The Norwegian firm has a manufacturing hub close to Delhi at Rewari in Haryana, India, which makes it the only producer of fibre-based packaging for liquid food in the Haryana area.

The company will introduce Roll-Fed aseptic cartons under the brand “ALPAK” in a variety of sizes and provide end-to-end service support to the customers.

It will roll out Pure-Pak fresh cartons, Pure-Pak aseptic cartons, and additional solutions in the future.

Elopak CEO Thomas Körmendi said: “We are delighted to announce this latest exciting step in our journey as we look to deliver on our growth strategy. India is the world’s biggest milk market, with serious growth potential.

“Together with GLS, there is an opportunity for us to be at the forefront of offering innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to this market that protect both the product and the environment.

“GLS’s innovative methods and state of the art processes are impressive, and we look forward to working with them closely through GLS Elopak to capitalize on this opportunity to meet growing demand.”

The partnership builds on the companies’ shared commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Earlier this month, Elopak launched its latest tethered cap solution, Pure-TwistFlip.
