Egypt-based PET bottle-to-bottle recycler BariQ has invested in new Starlinger PET recycling system and solid-state-polycondensation (SSP) reactor to expand its production capabilities.

With an output of 2,700kg/h, the new recoSTAR PET 215 HC iV recycling system and viscoSTAR 350 SSP reactor will allow BariQ to enhance its total production capacity to 35,000 metric tonnes of food-grade rPET pellets per annum.

The viscoSTAR 350 SSP reactor will help increase processing capacity and residence time and keep the new recycling line footprint compact similar to the first Starlinger PET recycling line BariQ installed in 2012.

BariQ is also upgrading its existing Starlinger recoSTAR PET 165 iV+ recycling line by installing a new melt filter for fine filtration and an additional SSP reactor.

It will help the company to improve the output of the line, as well as enable the production of rPET types beyond the regular bottle-to-bottle grades.

BariQ chief operations officer Ahmed ElKasaby said: “Starlinger has been there for BariQ from the start. We counted on the on-site and remote support from Starlinger, and they even exceeded our expectations.”

BariQ has also announced the purchase of the latest sorting equipment from Tomra Recycling to maintain the optimum quality of the input material.

The contracts for the new equipment have been signed at the BariQ plant situated in the CPC Industrial Park.

Starlinger recycling technology general manager Andreas Pechhacker said: “The planning for the plant had started already two years before – our bottle-to-bottle recycling experts worked closely with BariQ to customize the machine design during this time, taking into account the local bottle stream and requirements for food contact rPET.”

BariQ, which is claimed to be the largest PET bottle-to-bottle recycler in the MENA region, began production of food-grade rPET with a Starlinger PET recycling line in 2012.

In February last year, Austrian recycling company PET to PET Recycling Österreich installed a new Starlinger bottle-to-bottle recycling system.
