Ecolean’s packages secure approval from Swedish Rheumatism Association

Ecolean has secured approval from the Swedish Rheumatism Association (SRA) for all of its packages, making them certified as easy-to-open and easy-to-use by people with reduced hand function.

The company’s complete range of lightweight packages for chilled and ambient distribution, including the use of straw and reclosing device SnapQuick, were tested and approved by the association.

Ecolean said the approval is a significant milestone for the company’s long-term visison to offer safe and convenient packages with minimal environmental impact to consumers across the globe.

As per SRA, difficulties in handling packages turning out to be an increasing concern. Around 20% of the population in Europe is suffering from some kind of reduced hand function.

SRA uses a scientifically evaluated method, The Design for All Test, which was developed by the Swedish Disability Federation in partnership with professor Lena Lorentzen and the division of Design at Mid Sweden University.

The Design for all Test is used by the Swedish Rheumatism Association to assess how user-friendly products and packages.

Ecolean customer marketing manager Jens Olofsson said: “The Swedish Rheumatism Association uses a highly-proven method where all aspects of handling a package are evaluated.

“People with reduced hand function have tested Ecolean’s lightweight packages based on a variety of parameters including opening, holding, pouring, closing – and all our packages passed this challenging and prestigious test.”

Swedish Rheumatism Association president Lotta Håkansson said: “The idea is that products that are functional and easy-to-use for people with reduced hand function, are suitable for everyone.”

With operations in 30 countries, Ecolean produces lightweight packages and filling machines.

The company’s lightweight packages include Ecolean Air, Ecolean Air Aseptic, Ecolean Air Aseptic Clear and Snapquick. It also produces aseptic packaging and packaging material for the customers.
