UK-based packaging company DS Smith has designed new environmentally friendly packaging for Activtek’s air purification systems.

Earlier, Activtek packed its ActivPure Kaseton air purifier in a simple cardboard box with four polystyrene strips with grooves into which the device was inserted.

The polystyrene crumbled when the device was inserted, creating a negative impact for the buyer on the product.

Activtek also decided to replace the polystyrene with a more ecological material, as well as change the standard packaging to help enhance the quality of the ActivPure Kaseton product.

DS Smith has developed new sustainable packaging to protect valuable and fragile goods. It has replaced styrofoam slats with cardboard inserts to perfectly adjust the product.

The company has completely avoided plastic in the new packaging and designed the flat cardboard insert to reduce storage space.

The external packaging features five-layer cardboard, which is produced using recycled paper. It has been designed to easily fold and avoid the use of glue.

In addition, the new packaging offers an additional function to help enhance customer experience and ease of use.

Activtek administration and logistics coordinator Ewelina Wojtczak said: “We have eliminated the need to use polystyrene. Die-cut fillings take up less storage space.

“The new packaging is more professional – we could also use the surface of the packaging to print the template to facilitate assembly. It would not be possible to include such a template in a 1: 1 scale manual.”

In March this year, DS Smith announced plans to invest £100m for the development of two new packaging facilities in Italy and Poland.
