UK-based packaging company DS Smith has developed 100% recyclable e-commerce packaging for German start-up Blaue Helden.

Blaue Helden manufactures power tabs for mixing dishwashing and cleaning products.

The company aims to permanently reduce single-use plastic and CO2 emissions with its refill tablets.

Developed using 100% corrugated cardboard, the new sustainable packaging features precisely fitting inserts that help to avoid the use of filling materials for shipping the three and four hero starter sets.

The e-commerce packaging also meets Blaue Helden’s ecological standards.

The custom-fit corrugated cardboard inlay has the potential to hold the products securely in place in the packaging without using additional filling materials such as plastic bubble wrap.

With advanced identity exterior and interior print combination, the new shipping packaging helps to efficiently protect the product and provide a positive brand experience to the customers.

DS Smith has used limited fibre as per its own circular design principles for the Helden packaging solution.

According to the start-up, over 90% of the CO2 emissions caused by transporting conventional cleaning agents in disposable plastic bottles can be saved at the same time due to the low weight and packaging volume of the tabs.

Blaue Helden sells its environmentally friendly power tabs and reusable spray bottles via selected drugstores and supermarkets as well as the firm’s own online shop.

In May this year, DS Smith announced the investment of £100m to expand its research and development (R&D) activities and boost circular economy strategy.
