Domino Printing Sciences, the global inkjet and laser solutions specialist, has announced the acquisition, from Thermoscribe, of Swedish print and apply labelling equipment designer, developer and manufacturer Mectec Elektronik.

The purchase, for an undisclosed sum, marks the Cambridge firm’s first foray into the print and apply sector.

Malmo-based Mectec sells its machines both domestically and through a network of distributors in Europe, South Africa and Latin America.

“This acquisition significantly boost Domino’s print and apply offering and further increases our ability to provide value-added solutions,” says Domino md Nigel Bond. “Mectec has a thorough and enviable track record in delivering print and apply labelling systems and we are confident these strengths, married with Domino’s own industry expertise and extensive channel network, will make for an invaluable customer proposition.”

Domino group marketing manager Sheila Richardson explains that the company feels now is “a particularly good time for us to move into print and apply” for several reasons. She says: “In particular we are making strong progress in areas like RFID and providing complete integrated line solutions, with the recent establishment of our Integrated Solutions Group, and this acquisition is another step towards further extending our overall portfolio. Mectec’s print and apply labelling equipment will also complement our inkjet and laser coding machines in areas such as secondary and tertiary labelling.”
