Linpac has developed a degradable PE based cling film said to be suitable for food products. OxoLin is said to have the same high quality properties as the company’s existing range of stretch films and to comply with EU plastics food contact directives, as well as packaging and packaging waste directives.

The oxo-degradable film contains specially formulated natural additives which allow it to break down slowly into fragments of molecular chains which can be assimilated by micro-organisms after its useful life, when exposed to light and heat. Available in both mother rolls and refill rolls, it is claimed to offer excellent clarity and cling, and resistance to tearing.

Linpac says the new film has a shelf life of more than 12 months but will degrade after use in one to four years.
