Packaging company ALPLA has acquired Polish company APON to expand the footprint of its pharma division in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

The details of the acquisition were not revealed by both parties.

The acquisition of APON will help ALPLA tap the CEE market for pharmaceutical packaging. All APON personnel will remain in their current positions following the deal.

Established in 1985, APON manufactures plastic packaging for the pharmaceutical sector at its facility in Żyrardów near Warsaw.

With 45 employees, the company’s site in Żyrardów manufactures bottles with fill sizes ranging from five to 100 millilitres, containers with screw caps or snap closures and medical accessories with dose aids.

The firm also manufactures packaging for the e-liquid industry and for dietary supplements by using HDPE, LDPE, PP and PET as the packaging materials.

ALPLA has been producing plastic packaging products like bottles, containers, caps, dosage systems and accessories in certified clean-room quality for pharma products since 2016. The segment was consolidated under the brand ALPLApharma in 2019.

ALPLApharma has its main sites in Egypt, Greece, Romania, South Africa and Poland in addition to production facilities in nine other countries.

ALPLApharma managing director Walter Knes said: “We are increasing our presence in Central and Eastern Europe and are providing the emerging market in Poland and the Baltic states with high-quality products right there in the region.”

ALPLA CEO Philipp Lehner said: “The Pharma division has huge future potential. As well as above-average market growth, the segment is characterised by strong customer loyalty. With our global capacities and quality standards, we make reliable and long-term partnerships possible.”

In March this year, ALPLA Group acquired Texplast and PET Recycling Team Wolfen joint venture to expand its PET recycling capacity in Germany.
