US-based fresh fruit company Dayka & Hackett has launched its newly designed packaging Eco-Tote for its table grapes.

Dayka & Hackett said that the paper used in manufacturing new packaging Eco-Tote is biodegradable, compostable and recyclable and the colourful design of the packaging appeals to the consumers with environmental concern.

The company has developed Eco-Tote to attract consumers with its clean design, and the twisted handles make the bags a convenient ‘grab and go’ item for grapes.

Eco-Tote survived extensive testing at different environments

Apart from looks, the new packaging has also showed good performance in severe testing conducted at different post-harvest environments.

Dayka & Hackett is planning to roll out the new Eco-Tote in August 2019 during the California grape season and is expected to be offered throughout the year going forward.

The company said that the final design is a result of numerous trials, extensive testing, and valuable feedback from the retail sector, and is planning to release a fixed weight version of the packaging in the near future.

Dayka & Hackett business development/Sales executive Brett Burdsal said: “Plastic waste is an apparent issue worldwide and its effects on our environment are saddening. A healthy environment is important to our agricultural industry and for this reason we sought out a way to do our part in making a difference.

“By purchasing this bag of grapes, not only will you Taste the Difference but you will also be the difference. This bag was designed to be recyclable, reused and as a last resort, biodegradable.

“We encourage customers who buy this bag to use it accordingly. We understand the difference will not be made over night but as a company we are taking steps to a much larger end goal.”

Based in Reedley, California, US, Dayka & Hackett is involved in growing, packing, and shipping of fresh table grapes, tree fruit, and citrus.

Furthermore, the company imports fruits from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Republic of South Africa, Uruguay and other countries to serve its customers round the year.
