The company has announced a £1m investment plan at the labels facility, which will help the company to increase capacity by more than 20%, enabling to meet growing demand for the sustainable pack format.

Coveris is a major European linerless manufacturer that produces more than one billion labels per annum.

To increase downstream production capacity, the company will install new coating systems, as well as upgrades the existing machine infrastructure.

Coveris is planning to complete the work by January 2019, which will help to increase capacity to support future growth and increased seasonal demand.

The company noted that the lightweight and wraparound solution offers 40% weight saving, zero waste and full recyclability, which resulted in increased demand for sustainable format at the UK packaging industry.

Coveris’ linerless growth model helps to reduce unnecessary weight and waste through smarter packaging, while less sustainable formats such as sleeves will increase pack weight and self-adhesive labels will produce residual backing paper waste.

Coveris linerless sales director Craig Bevan said: “given the continued growth of linerless in the UK protein sector and the increased demand from other food categories and geographical markets, we are very pleased to welcome further investment in capacity which will allow us to better meet the needs of new and existing customers.

“Additional technical capabilities also mean that we will be able to offer more functional and decorative solutions such as shaped labels and apertures to deliver improved shelf-impact across a variety of FMCG categories.”

The investment is following the company’s recent launch of Pack Positive sustainability strategy that targets packaging recyclability and waste reduction, as well as promotes the positive role of packaging in daily life.

As part of the Pack Positive strategy, Coveris outlined its plans to target recyclability, packaging and food waste reduction.

Coveris provides sustainable packaging solutions for customers in the food, beverage, pet food, medical, and pharmaceuticals markets.
