Corrosion control technologies provider Cortec has introduced dual Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibiting (VpCI)-desiccant product, Desicorr VpCI Pouches/NW.
Available in both windowed and non-windowed versions (NW), the Desicorr VpCI Pouches/NW feature two-sided pouches which combine desiccant and Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors for moisture absorption and corrosion protection.
The windowed version of the Desicorr VpCI Pouches features indicator spheres designed to change color from yellow to green once the desiccant is fully spent.
Whereas the non-windowed versions replaces the window with a breathable membrane in order to provide greater durability.
Cortec said that the new dual function of the Desicorr VpCI Pouches/NW not only reduces moisture in the air but also provides multi-metal corrosion protection (VpCI action) within a package.
Available in 1/6 and 1 Unit sizes, the pouches are compatible with aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, galvanized steel, silicon steel, and solder.
Cortec said in a statement: “In essence, the desiccant action allows the VpCI to have free access to the surface of the metal, without competition from moisture on the metal surface.
“VpCI molecules in the pouch vaporize, emit through the breathable membrane, and condense on metal surfaces within the enclosed package to provide a protective molecular barrier against corrosive elements that may enter the package.”
Capable of being inserted easily into a package manually or automatically, the Desicorr VpCI Pouches/NW can protect multiple metal products, components, or assemblies when packaged in corrugated boxes, plastic wrap or bags, and wood or metal containers, the company noted.
The new pouches can be used for completed assemblies, parts, and components; motors; mechanical controls; precision machined or stamped parts; marine and commercial electronic equipment; electrical equipment; and tools.
