Controlling the waste

MIS provider Imprint Business Systems has developed a system that offers the possibility of monitoring and controlling waste generation throughout the printing and converting process. Designed to work with both sheet and web-fed machines with or with-out in-line finishing, WasteMaster is a series of software modules that contribute information to facilitate track- ing and monitoring of waste from make-ready to finished product.

According to Imprint, the new system accurately identifies and records where waste is occurring on the production line and provides information on the performance of consumables from different manufacturers, with comparable and qualified data that indicates the consumption and efficiency of each product per job, per press.

WasteMaster records data for incoming reels or pallets that are weighed validated and identified in the goods inwards area. The labels it generates are used as identi-fication for pallet and reel tracking, and for electronic physical stock checks including bar code shooting on the shopfloor data capture station on the press in-feed section. Weight, width, g/m2, microns, supplier, order number, and reel batch are also identified. Non invasive sensors relay the machine status to the control system.
