Constantia Flexibles Group has commissioned its first machine for digital printing for exclusive use in the pharmaceutical industry.

The multi-color UV inkjet printer has been installed at the company’s Constantia Fromm in Remshalden near Stuttgart, Germany.

Constantia Fromm is one of the Constantia Flexibles’ four plants within the Pharma division in Europe. It is engaged in supplying printed and plain blister foil, childproof packaging and pouch foil to the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Constantia Flexibles Pharma Division executive vice-president Pierre-Henri Bruchon said: “This investment allows us to better serve our customers with short run orders, while our digital strategy creates the possibility for serialization and individual packs in the future.

“At the same time, the digital technology offers a cost-effective alternative to online and in-house print solutions of pharmaceutical companies, thus allowing our customers to concentrate purely on making medicine.”

Planned to be made available for customer print trials and commercial orders at the end of this month, the UV inkjet printer and can print on aluminum blister foil, coated and uncoated paper, as well as PET and paper laminates.

With a resolution of up to 720×1260 dpi, the printer features web inspection system for 100% inspection of the print, and is verified in line with the customer’s artwork.

Constantia said: “Thorough testing has shown compliance with EU regulations for ink migration.”
