Speciality labels manufacturer Schreiner MediPharm has created a tamper-resistant label for vials that includes a clear and irreversible first-opening indication.

The company said that the new label is intended to prevent unlawful reuse of original containers and maintain their integrity.

The label will encircle the vial up to the cap. To use the vial, a label integrated tear strip has to be peeled off that cannot be resealed. Furthermore, a warning message will emerge that the vial has been opened.

Schreiner MediPharm said that the first opening will be associated with a void effect where previously invisible lettering or symbols separate from an indicator field.

The label will include special features such as a detachable documentation label, a transparent inspection window to check the vial content, a light protection function for sensitive substances, or integrated near field communication (NFC)/ radio frequency identification (RFID) chips for digital applications.

The tamper-resistant label is suitable for small custom-designed vials. It can be produced in the normal workflow of pharmaceutical production without hampering the product’s branding and design.

According to Schreiner MediPharm, pharms companies will be benefited as the label fits their production process and safeguards the supply chain.

The easy-to-use label will help patients protect against the potential administration of ineffective or harmful medications.

In August 2020, Schreiner MediPharm developed a label solution for Biotech firm CSL Behring.

Schreiner MediPharm, a business unit of Schreiner Group, develops and manufactures multifunctional speciality labels and marking solutions with value-added benefits for the healthcare industry.
