India-based manufacturer of thin polyester film, Polyplex Corporation has announced plans to invest $185m to open a new manufacturing plant in Decatur, US.

According to Polyplex, the proposed plant will produce thin plastic films used in the food packaging industry.

The company plans to invest $110m to complete and open Phase I of the facility in 2012 while Phase II will involve $75m and would cater to the expansion of the polyester film line facility.

Construction of the plant is expected to start in August this year and operations will begin in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Polyplex, which has operation facilities in India, Thailand and Turkey manufactures plastic films for flexible packaging and industrial applications.

The Alabama facility will be Polyplex’s largest capital investment in any single location, the firm claimed.
