Sustainable packaging solutions provider Colpac has helped Hug PET Foods to set up sustainable packaging and sealing machinery solutions.
Colpac has used its recyclable Stagione range to create a future-proof solution that can maintain the quality of Hug’s food products.
UK-based pet food producer Hug was looking for a high-quality and sustainable packaging solution that can ensure the safety of the ingredients in its product range.
The company needed a packaging solution that was simple, effective, and represented the premium Hug brand while also being versatile enough to handle the wide range of pet food dishes created.
Hug was drawn to Colpac’s Stagione series due to its distinctive shape, performance, recyclable nature according to regulations and ability to allow both freezing, and microwave heating.
Initially, Hug proposed individually printed, sealed, lidded packs. But with 28 recipes and a continuous process of evolution of these recipes, custom printing the bases was not a cost-effective or flexible enough solution for Hug’s strategy.
Hug and Colpac collaborated to develop a future-proof solution. The sealing of the Stagione bases was the initial step.
Colpac developed the solution after the initial offering of Colseal SL1200, which was rejected due to the requirement of additional functionality.
The solution is flexible and cost-effective to support the branding of the pots. It is a full-colour printed sleeve that could be attached to the packs for each of the numerous flavour combinations, with space for an inkjet label with ingredients, best before date, and serving/cooking directions.
