Coca-Cola Turkey has used thermochromic inks to add color, function and fun to ten new aluminium beverage can designs.

Generally, Coca-Cola prefers to combine one or two thermochromic inks to communicate temperature changes, but the firm used thermochromic ink technology as a decorative tool for the first time.

Four separate inks were used to create bright designs, which stand out when the cans are chilled and the drinks ready for consumption.

The Coke Red and Coke Zero beverage cans feature designs, including summer themes ranging from ice cubes and palm trees to sandals and sailing boats.

The images are colourless at ambient temperature and vary to colourful patterns when the drink is chilled and ready for consumption.

Coca-Cola’s summer promotional cans are manufactured at Crown’s Osmaniye plant, which holds capacity to produce around two billion cans per year.

Crown said the 70 million units will be produced in this year for summer campaign alone, with a prominent number already in the retail supply chain.

Crown Bevcan Europe & Middle East marketing and business development director Matt Twiss said: “Crown worked with dedication to facilitate the complex printing process of the four inks, a novelty in our line of work.

“While we have used thermochromic ink technology for many commercial applications, the Coca-Cola campaign highlights its potential as a decorative tool, conveying a message of freshness and fun in an aesthetically pleasing and original way.”

Recently, Crown has produced physical beverage can, which is embedded with Almond blockchain technology, for FACT Water.

Crown Bevcan Europe & Middle East, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, has introduced its CrownConnect technology in conjunction with FACT beverage cans.

Through its subsidiaries, Crown Holdings provides packaging products to consumer marketing companies across the globe.
