Cedo, a manufacturer of household waste bags made with recycled plastics, has introduced a new antibacterial refuse sack for domestic use in the UK.

Claimed to be the first of its kind in the country, the new Good Karma Antibac refuse sacks will be available in Morrisons supermarkets from 8 November.

Over the next year, the company will also expand the availability of new refuse sacks across Europe and the UK.

Manufactured using 100% recycled plastic, the Good Karma Antibac refuse sacks integrates Bactiglas antimicrobial technology.

The antimicrobial technology has demonstrated the capacity to kill over 99% of bacteria such as E.coli and S.aureus in controlled testing, stated the company.

Cedo UK commercial director Martin Burdekin said: “By adding an Antimicrobial called Bactiglas – a technology developed by Wells Plastics which is used in a wide range of applications from hospitals to food packaging and is a trusted brand across the healthcare industry – we’ve created a fully circular refuse sack that can help reduce the spread of deadly bacteria like E.coli and S.aureus.

“At this time of year, as cold and flu germs are on the rise, this is the perfect way to improve the safe handling and disposal of household waste.”

In 2014, Cedo is said to be the first company to produce bin bags using post-consumer flexible plastic film such as used sandwich wrappers and other soft plastic packaging collected from households.

Currently, the company holds the potential to recycle over 80,000 tonnes of plastic waste at its recycling centre in Holland.

The company’s Holland facility is one of the largest flexible film recycling centres in Europe that supports manufacturing sites in Poland and the UK where more than four billion refuse sacks and bin liners are produced each for customers in 34 countries.

Around 93% of the plastic used by Cedo to produce non-food products is from recycled sources in the UK.
