Canpack announces plans for new $140m can plant in Brazil. (Credit: CANPACK)

Canpack, a sustainable packaging maker and part of the Canpack Group, has announced that it will invest around BRL710m ($140m) to build a new can production facility in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The new plant, located in Poços de Caldas, is intended to increase the production capacity of beverage cans.

Construction on the facility is anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the plant is scheduled to start operations in the first quarter of 2024.

The new plant’s installed initial total capacity will be around 1.3 billion cans per year, and its output will be focused on meeting Brazilian consumers’ demand.

The new production facility will create around 140 direct high-quality jobs in the Poços de Caldas area.

Canpack Brazil general director Paulo Dias said: “We are excited and proud to bring to the region the state-of-the-art greenfield manufacturing facility producing aluminium beverage cans, an infinitely recyclable packaging.

“We chose to expand in Poços de Caldas because of its strong economy and very business-friendly environment.

“We thank the city authorities, especially Mr Sérgio Azevedo, Mayor of Poços de Caldas, and Thiago Mariano, Secretary of Economic Development, for the warm welcome and are looking forward to becoming an integral part of the local community.”

Recently, Canpack announced an investment of BRL360m ($70m) in an aluminium beverage can ends production facility in Manaus (Amazonas).

The total value of both investments is more than BRL1bn.

In May last year, the company announced a new aluminium beverage can body manufacturing plant in Indiana, US.
