Canpack, a packaging manufacturer owned by Giorgi Global Holdings, is set to construct a new aluminium beverage can body manufacturing plant in Indiana, US.

Canpack’s proposed facility in Muncie is said to represent a $380m investment in Delaware County and the state of Indiana.

The firm’s second US manufacturing facility is expected to create up to 345 jobs in the region by 2023.  It may also be expanded to create up to 425 jobs by 2025.

Canpack will develop the new manufacturing facility on 139 acres of land on the southwest corner of South Cowan and West Fuson Roads in Monroe Township in Muncie.

The company is planning to begin the construction of the 862,000ft² facility later this year. It is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Giorgi Global Holdings president and CEO Peter Giorgi said: “Under Governor Eric Holcomb’s leadership, Indiana has been making record investments in workforce and education, maintaining its fiscal discipline and developing strong and resilient communities.”

Last year, the company had broken ground on its first US manufacturing facility in Olyphant, Pennsylvania.

Canpack also aims to further increase its investment by $10m to enhance its end-making capacity in the Olyphant facility.

Canpack CEO Roberto Villaquiran said: “We are proud to bring to Muncie, Indiana, a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility producing aluminium cans, an infinitely recyclable and sustainable product.

“We look forward to becoming an integral part of the Muncie community and contributing to the remarkable business environment that exists in Indiana.”

With around 8,000 employees, Canpack operates 28 manufacturing sites in Europe, South America, India, the Middle East, Africa and now the US.
