Calpine Containers, a portfolio company of Rainier Partners, has acquired US-based JS Ag Packaging for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Bakersfield, JS Ag offers packaging distribution, labelling, and design services primarily to agricultural customers across California.

JS Ag founder Jeff Smith will join Calpine and monitor inner packaging sales for the combined business.

In a statement, Smith said: “This combination enables us to provide a single source for all our customers’ packaging needs, while maintaining the same focus on customer service and dependability that has allowed both companies to flourish independently.”

Established in 2002, JS Ag delivers its packaging products and customer service to growers of fresh fruit and produce across the world.

The company’s product portfolio consists of customised and stock grape bags, vented hinged clamshells, bubble pads, foam pads, berry soaker pads, plastic mulch film, strawberry drip tape and others.

JS Ag’s full-service solutions are said to help agriculture businesses to build their brands and convey their messaging via standard, custom, or unique packaging.

Calpine CEO Walt Tindell said: “JS Ag’s product offerings and customer service ethics will allow us to provide even more extensive products and services to our customers.

“I’ve worked alongside Jeff and his team in this industry for decades and have great respect for the business they’ve built. I am excited to join forces and work together to capitalize on our shared vision for growth.”

Based in Clovis, California, Calpine supplies various packaging products ranging from bags and boxes to pallets and strapping.

With a footprint of 11 locations across West Coast agricultural regions, the company serves over 500 fresh produce growers and marketers.
