Global adhesive specialist Bostik has completed the acquisition of industrial adhesives business from Nitta Gelatin.

In May this year, Arkema announced the proposed acquisition of the industrial adhesives of Nitta-Gelatin, by the Bostik-Nitta joint venture (JV).

The acquisition is said to compliment the construction of a new adhesives plant in Japan, which will enable Bostik to meet the growing demand from packaging, labelling, transportation and electronics industrial markets.

The new adhesives plant will also allow help to meet the requirement for hygiene applications in the nonwoven markets.

Bostik-Nitta JV’s new world-scale plan will feature several production lines, which will allow to produce adhesives for the nonwoven market for hygiene applications, as well as for industrial adhesives markets.

Situated in Nara of Japan, the new adhesives facility is expected to be operational in early 2020.

The new facility will support Bostik-Nitta JV to expand its customer-base in the Japanese hygiene market and strengthen the production of some industrial adhesives product lines.

Representing sales of around €30m, the acquired business will help Bostik to expand its adhesives business in the Japanese market.

Bostik produces a range of adhesive products for various applications in the packaging market.

The firm’s adhesive products can be used in applications ranging from rigid packaging to flexible packaging.

Developed to be used in a range of end-use temperatures and adhered to different substrates, the adhesive’s rigid packaging applications include freezer, general purpose, low application temperature and specialty.

Bostik, an Arkema company, supplies adhesive solutions to the customers in the industrial, construction and consumer markets.

With annual sales of €2bn, the company employs 6,000 people and carries out operations in more than 50 countries.

Arkema, which reported annual sales of €8.3bn in 2017, has business portfolio that covers high-performance materials, industrial specialties and coating solutions.

With around 20,000 employees, the company carries out operations in around 55 countries.

The company has research centers in North America, France and Asia, which focuses on development of advanced bio-based products, new energies, water management, electronic solutions and light-weight materials.
