The flexible films division of plastic consumer packaging maker Berry Global is set to launch a next-generation of its stretch hood film dubbed Stretch Hood Sustane.

The stretch hood film is made of a minimum of 30% of recycled plastic content and can help companies in meeting their sustainability goals and the requirements of current and upcoming UK and European plastics packaging legislation.

The stretch hood film can be stretched over and around a pallet of finished goods, completely waterproofing the load and improving its load stability. According to the firm, the film uses lower material than traditional shrink hooding films.

Berry uses Sustane polymers to make the stretch hood film while maintaining seal integrity and high tear resistance.

The Sustane polymers integrate recycled plastic to deliver required technical performance, consistency, traceability and quality.

According to the company, Stretch Hood Sustane has a minimum of 30% recycled content and is ideal for low to medium-stretch applications in markets such as beverages, building and glass.

Berry is currently producing the film in its factories in Belgium, Germany, Poland and the UK.

According to Berry’s calculations, the film can reduce carbon emissions by about 18% compared to the one made completely from virgin material.

The Stretch Hood Sustane aligns with the firm’s Impact 2025 sustainability strategy. Berry also has plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2025 versus the company’s 2016 baseline.

Berry Packaging Solutions Industrial commercial director Daniel Stauber said: “Stretch Hood Sustane provides the perfect opportunity for customers to access a pallet stretch hooding solution where previously only prime polymer versions were available”

“It is another example of our commitment to help customers meet and exceed their sustainability goals.”
