US-based hybrid packaging supplier Berlin Packaging has acquired glass packaging supplier for the French wine and olive oil end markets Verrerie du Comtat.

Verrerie du Comtat, based in Sorgues, France, in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône vineyards, provides local wine and food makers with glass bottles, jars, corks, and packaging accessories.

The firm was launched by Aline Maroncelli, the company’s president, whose father was a pioneer in glass packaging distribution, in 1986.

Berlin Packaging EMEA chief executive officer Paolo Recrosio said: “We are excited to continue expanding our wine and olive oil business with the acquisition of Verrerie du Comtat.

“The company has strong relationships with its customers and suppliers that we look forward to growing.”

Berlin Packaging France chief executive officer Eric Citone said: “We are very pleased to welcome Verrerie du Comtat to our group.

“This new acquisition strengthens our strategic positioning in the wine and olive oil markets, mainly in the ´Vallée du Rhône´ region.

“We will ensure the continuity of the company’s activities with the current Verrerie du Comtat team and offer new opportunities to customers and suppliers.”

Berlin Packaging Global CEO and president Bill Hayes said: “We believe there is significant opportunity in France for the food and beverage end markets, and we are pleased this family-owned business has chosen to partner with Berlin Packaging.”

The latest deal is Berlin Packaging’s 21st  acquisition in EMEA since 2016 and the company’s second in the region this year.

Berlin Packaging will retain all the staff and locations of Verrerie du Comtat.

In April this year, Berlin Packaging acquired Panvetri, a supplier of glass and metal packaging for the wine and olive oil industries, for an undisclosed sum.
