Hybrid packaging supplier Berlin Packaging has acquired France-based glass packaging company Gerfran for an undisclosed sum.

Based in La Réole, Gerfran has expertise in providing glass packaging for wine and beverage end markets.

With a focus on Bordeaux bottles, Gerfran supplies wine bottles to wine producers of all sizes ranging from small vineyards to large estates.

The company also supplies bottles and jars for beer, spirits, fruit juices, and food, in addition to wine bottles.

Established in 1984 and acquired by Lionel Fruh in 2008, Gerfran has a significant presence in the Aquitane region of France. It has warehouses across the southwest of the country.

Gerfran president Lionel Fruh said: “We are delighted to be part of the Berlin Packaging family. Indeed, by combining our expertise, I am confident that we can achieve great things for our customers and supplier partners.”

The packaging supplier said that will retain all employees and locations as part of the transaction.

Berlin Packaging stated that Gerfran will be the 18th acquisition by the company in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) since 2016 and the 8th acquisition in EMEA in 2021 after completion of all pending transactions.

Berlin Packaging global CEO and president Bill Hayes said: “Targeted acquisitions such as Gerfran are a key component of our European growth strategy. This addition strengthens our position in the wine packaging market in France and across Europe.”

In August this year, Berlin Packaging acquired Spain-based Juvasa Group that supplies glass, plastic and metal packaging for the food and beverage industry.
