US-based hybrid packaging supplier Berlin Packaging has acquired glass packaging solutions distributor European Packaging Solutions (EPS).

The acquisition expands Berlin Packaging’s presence in the Balkans with additional glass packaging solutions for the food, soft drink, beer, and spirit markets.

Under the agreement, all the employees and locations will be retained.

Established in 2005 in Tirana, Albania, EPS extended its operations to Bulgaria in 2013.

With facilities in both nations, EPS offers a wide variety of pre-made and custom glass packaging options, as well as 30 proprietary moulds for its clients’ sole usage.

EPS general manager George Voutsas said: “EPS shares Berlin Packaging’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for innovation. We are excited to start this new journey and to unite forces.

“I know our employees, customers, and suppliers will benefit greatly from this promising partnership.”

The hybrid packaging supplier entered the Balkans area in 2021 by purchasing Elias Valavanis, a Greece-based provider of glass packaging for the food and beverage sectors.

Berlin Packaging EMEA CEO Paolo Recrosio said: “With the acquisition of EPS, we extend our operations to new countries in Europe. This first-rate glass packaging supplier in the food and beverage industries will bring additional expertise to our company.”

EPS is Berlin Packaging’s fourth purchase in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and seventh acquisition overall in 2022.

Berlin Packaging global CEO Bill Hayes said: “The EPS acquisition expands our presence in the Balkans and secures important locations in Albania and Bulgaria.”

Last month, Berlin Packaging signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Netherlands-based Bark Packaging Group to bolster its footprint in Northern Europe.
