Baldwin Technology has acquired US-based QuadTech from its parent firm Quad/Graphics for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Sussex of Wisconsin, QuadTech is engaged in the design and manufacture of control systems for commercial, newspaper, packaging and publication gravure printers.

With a network of sales and service operations, the company markets its automated systems in over 100 countries across the globe.

The acquired business will be included in Web Printing Controls and PC Industries to create Baldwin Vision Systems.

The combined business will offer comprehensive portfolio for print process automation, inspection and related services.

QuadTech president Karl Fritchen will serve as head for the new Baldwin segment, which offers closed-loop automation for registration, inking, color management and web handling.

The unit also offers inspection solutions for the commercial, newspaper, labels, packaging, converting and publication gravure industries.

The acquisition will allow Baldwin to expand its operations across the Americas, Europe, China, Japan and India.

Fritchen said: “The combination of products and expertise held within both companies will enable us to reach areas of the market we were unable to reach individually.”

Baldwin president and CEO Brent Becker said: “QuadTech will serve as a catalyst for the formation of our new Baldwin Vision Systems segment, which will greatly enhance Baldwin’s ability to provide an even more comprehensive automation portfolio for our customers around the world.”

Baldwin Technology offers process-automation equipment and related consumables for the printing, packaging and other industrial segments such as technical textiles, chip and fiberboard and film extrusion.
