The switch to Tosca's pooled plastic pallet solutions is said to help Avery Dennison save over 800 tons of CO2 emissions from its European supply chain annually

Packaging and labelling company Avery Dennison has selected reusable plastic packaging and performance pooling solutions firm Tosca as its European partner for pooled plastic pallets.

California-based Avery Dennison designs and manufactures a wide variety of labelling and functional materials for use in different industries globally.

Tosca and Avery Dennison will work together to distribute goods from their production facilities and distribution hubs throughout the EU, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey.

Tosca said that Avery Dennison plans to transition a sizeable portion of its European product distribution from wooden pallets to Tosca’s pooled plastic pallets throughout 2023 in phases.

According to reusable plastic packaging firm, Avery Dennison chose to partner with Tosca following several positive shipping trials, including one from its Dublin distribution hub to clients in Ireland.

Avery Dennison central packaging leader Violeta Gómez said: “The pooling program has been a massive success in Ireland and is helping us to reduce our carbon footprint and eliminate waste within the supply chain.

“Customers appreciate the fact that plastic pallets offer standard quality: they are cleaner (dust-free) and with less risk of damaging their products.”

Tosca claimed that the switch to Tosca’s pooled plastic pallet solutions will help Avery Dennison will save over 800 tons of CO2 emissions from its European supply chain annually.

The firm also estimates that its plastic pallets can be reused over 100 times and are recyclable.

Under the agreement, Avery Dennison’s network of partners is also free to participate in the pooling program under favourable terms to cover the onward freight of finished materials to brands and other end users.

Tosca is said to have a pooling model to deliver clean empty pallets from its service centres located across Europe, to Avery Dennison sites.

Additionally, Tosca will provide these partners with a CO2 emissions reduction certificate.
