Valmet Converting company Atlas reports outstanding sales success with its range of primary film slitters in China. It says there has been “an investment boom” in plastics film production over the last two years.

Almost 40 new production lines for PP and polyester film have been ordered during this period. As a result, says Atlas, annual production of film will double to one million tonnes, most of it for the flexible packaging sector – which is also booming.

For some time Atlas has been the market leader for wide primary film slitters in China and is now reporting unprecedented success in the current economic climate. “Records seem to be broken every month in this current frenzy of activity,” explains John Southall, vp for Atlas film slitters.

The company is investing heavily in its resources and infrastructure in China to respond to this rapidly expanding market situation. In addition to the recent establishment of a Shanghai Sales and Service Centre, there will be a new spare parts centre in Wuxi.

Dubai Polyfilm, of the United Arab Emirates, has placed a US$5M order for Valmet equipment. It comprises an 8m wide Atlas primary film slitter, a smaller CW800 2.5m slitter rewinder and two 2,850mm General ‘K’ Series vacuum metallizers. The first machines will be delivered during the summer of 2003.

This will be the third film line to be installed by Dubai Polyfilm, to meet increasing demand, particularly from the flexible packaging sector. The new order will bring its total investment in Valmet Converting equipment to 12 machines.
