Packaging company Amcor has launched a new AmPrima PE Plus high-barrier, high-speed and recycle-ready liquid pouch packaging solution, as part of its sustainable efforts.

Designed to provide brand owners with advanced packaging, the AmPrima PE Plus recycle ready solution is expected to enhance recyclability in challenging categories.

AmPrima PE Plus offers durable hermetic edge and fitment seals, which perform better under harsh manufacturing, distribution and usage conditions.

The company has developed a high-barrier flexible film, which delivers better heat resistance and serves as a sustainable alternative to standard metallised or foil-based structures.

Amcor marketing director Brian Douglas said: “We know that in today’s world of high-performance equipment, rigorous quality testing and consumer-driven environmental consciousness, developing a recycle-ready solution that delivers on all attributes is crucial.

“Our proprietary, oriented structure has a demonstrated ability to run on commercial converting and filling equipment at the same machine speeds as non-recyclable material, putting it in a different class from other conventionally-oriented, recyclable film options.”

The company’s AmPrima PE Plus heat resistant recycle ready solutions for pouches offer multiple benefits, including sealing and spout insertion without distortion due to heat-resistant outer web.

Other benefits include pre-qualification of the film by How2Recycle in the US for applications that meet the clean and dry requirement, and better durability for distribution, including puncture and scuff resistance.

Amcor said that the new solutions can match the current run cycles per minute achieved with a non-recyclable oriented polyester laminate.

Compared to a 3ply foil solution, a 22% reduction in carbon footprint for AmPrima PE Plus heat resistant pouches can be achieved even when the used packaging is landfilled. Upon recycling, the reduction can be increased to 49%.
