Packaging solutions provider Amcor has inaugurated its new $100m advanced flexible packaging manufacturing plant in Huizhou, China.

The 590,000ft² packaging facility is claimed to be the largest flexible packaging plant by production capacity in China.

According to Amcor, the new plant will further bolster the company’s capacity to meet customer demand throughout the Asia Pacific.

The new facility is expected to employ more than 550 employees, which will create flexible packaging for food and personal care goods.

Amcor said that the facility also has China’s first automated production line for packaging along with high-speed printing presses, laminators, and bag-making machines for double-digit reductions in manufacturing cycle times.

Also, Amcor is introducing the first smart production and operation system in the Chinese flexible packaging market.

The system features intelligent laser scanners, light curtains, high-standard machine guarding, and several quality-control points.

Additionally, all essential process equipment complies with strict European Union (EU) health, safety, and environmental standards and is CE-certified, said the packaging firm.

The plant has traceability throughout the production cycle, a climate-controlled manufacturing environment, and low-carbon emission production.

Amcor Greater China vice president and general manager Xin She said: “This investment is a testament to our commitment to grow with our customers in China and throughout Asia Pacific by bringing the best of Amcor’s global expertise closer to them.

“The world-class capabilities of our new plant are designed to enable us to exceed our customers’ expectations of quality, responsiveness and innovation.”

The facility has three advanced testing and analytical labs. It will use the knowledge from the recently created Amcor Asia Pacific Innovation Centre in Jiangyin, China, to create ethical packaging solutions.

Additionally, the new Huizhou site has several sustainability features like Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTO) systems along with energy-saving, heat-recovery, low-power consumption, and rainwater harvesting systems to lessen its impact on the environment and carbon footprint.
